Our power chairs are built to your exact specifications and fitted to you perfectly, not one size fits all
A phone consultation and deposit must be carried out before purchase to discuss your requirements.
Just for your information, we have already shipped 2 of our chairs to Australia.
Type of chair: I build two versions of ‘the Powerchair’
- The first version (MK 1) is very rigid and exceptionally strong, but cannot have a lift (lift and tilt mechanism or leg/foot articulation added at a later date). The MK 1 is available in either hard-tail (no rear suspension, manual chair users generally prefer this) or soft-tail (with rear suspension). It can have a tilt actuator added though, if required
- The second version (MK 2) is still very strong but not quite as rigid due to the Reac Lift Mechanism. This can only be built incorporating a tilt mechanism as a minimum, but can, if required have lift and tilt, recline or foot articulation as options or added easily right away or at a later date, easily. Again this is available in either hard-tail or soft-tail
Seat pan height vs ground clearance:
‘The Powerchair’ is the perfect balance between indoor and outdoor performance as standard, however it can be tailored to suit an individuals requirements, this is especially true of seat pan height vs ground clearance, the standard seat pan height is 17″ (no cushion) and a ground clearance of 4.5”.
Where a client needs to get under a desk or chair of a specific height regularly or not able to transfer, we can lose some of the ground clearance to try and accommodate this. On the other hand if a client is using the chair mainly for off road purposes, we can increase the ground clearance. That being said most users choose the standard setup.
You can have any colour you wish, and I mean ANY! I usually contrast the main visual components with matt black working parts, but this is entirely your decision, standard colours are no extra charge but any metallics or special finishes incur a charge of up to £200.
Wheels and tyres:
There are many choices when it comes to wheel and tyre combinations, the standard tyres offer the best all round performance indoor and out, but again, if you require you chair for a specific purpose or even if you are more interested in how aesthetically pleasing the chair looks, there will be a choice that suits your Individual requirements.
Options like headrests, thigh splay pads and taller backrests etc are all included in the price of your bespoke build, if you require something very specific, no obligation quotes are provided and will be very reasonably priced, with something as important as a Powerchair, it has to be affordable and right!
This is your Powerchair, you say what you want and how you want it, you can have virtually any colour you wish (as long as I can get the powder coating colour from the supplier). Many optional extras are available on request & subject to a reasonable and fair extra charge, iPad stand, phone holder, rear bike child seat, heated seat, umbrella holder, electric seat tilt, headrest, electric back rest recline, foot articulation, chair lift/rise, attendant control etc.
The Powerchairs are built and supplied by Kilmore Power Chairs.
My wife is tetraplegic (broken neck, paralysed from the neck down) and we were fed up of not being able to go places in the wheelchairs that were provided or available in the current market. We wanted to be able to take our children on the beach, actually on the soft sand but couldn’t because the wheelchairs were not capable.
If we did get a chair that was capable, it was useless around our home, didn’t fit in the car and my wife did not want to be getting in and out of different chairs depending on where we were going. This is when I set to work and successfully built a Powerchair that has amazing outdoor capabilities (rough terrain, the beach etc), yet is narrow enough and small enough for around the home and to fit into our vehicle.
We are a successful small business who are looking to change the electric wheelchair market for the better. We currently build very bespoke power-chairs all based on a very special chassis that offers outstanding outdoor performance whilst keeping the dimensions of an indoor chair. A TRUE indoor/outdoor chair.
We want to force the market to progress rapidly, improving people’s lives in the process. We have successfully built more than twenty of these chairs – each one totally bespoke. Our customers tell us their needs, what they wish to be able to do and give us a full list of priorities, measurements are taken and a build commences. Huge improvements have been made over other manufacturers, whilst keeping the cost of a custom built, hand made, power-chair to a minimum.
Why exactly is everything built with a shelf life in mind these days? Many products that are considered good value, that we buy in 2018 seem to be incredibly poor quality and hardly fit for purpose. Why? …To drive up profit. At Kilmore Powerchairs we don’t sacrifice build quality or everything that should come as standard, on an item as important as a Power-Chair for a little extra profit. We want to go back to when things were built to last, with no shelf life in mind, just built to the best of our ability with a view to lasting a long time.
Nothing would please us more than to see one of our chairs still going strong in 10 years time! Yes, that would mean that we might have missed out on selling 3 or 4 newer models, but that’s not what we care about. We do care about people, and what they want from their Powerchair….reliability and longevity.
Please be aware due to the custom and incredible bespoke nature of the way we build our chairs – centred around you, that any wheelchair built by us is not crash tested. That said, please bear in mind I am a qualified mechanical engineer who only uses good engineering practices and stand by what I build. If you have any doubts about the build quality of these chairs please take a look at the ‘Powerchair’ and compare it to many other mass produced electric wheelchairs, we believe the difference is obvious
